| Define PICOT Elements | P– (Patient population/patients of interest): Patients of hospital institutions suffering from various diseases. These patients have a certain level of patient education and are able to treat their health responsibly. I– (Intervention): Subjects will randomly be treated, while nurses will track their level of satisfaction. The impact of the education of these subjects on the effectiveness of the nurses’ work will be evaluated. C– (Comparison): Normal and natural communication between nurses and patients will be used as a control group. O– (Measurable outcome): Statistical identification of how aspects such as patient satisfaction and patient education have affected the performance of nurses. T– (Time frame in months): The result will be revealed within two months. |
| Evidence Retrieval Process and Summary | Patient satisfaction is directly related to the quality of treatment outcomes and hospital stays. Quality treatment, friendly staff, and effective nursing work affect the patient’s satisfaction with the treatment process as a whole. The Institute for Healthcare Improvement in 2008 identified three main aspects that positively affect the development of the US healthcare system. These aspects include improving the patient experience from hospital stays, including patient satisfaction; improving public health; and reducing the cost of treatment (McCay et al., 2017). In this case, the first aspect is key, as it directly affects the patient’s recovery. Moreover, the patient’s satisfaction depends on his communication with the medical staff. In other words, if the nurses are satisfied with their work and perform it efficiently, patients will also be satisfied with the treatment. Such a chain of actions will directly lead to improved treatment outcomes. Recently, the health care system has moved away from the paternalistic approach, where a doctor or nurse led the entire treatment process. The new patient-oriented approach can significantly reduce the number of people in hospitals and speed up the recovery process (Wittink & Oosterhaven, 2018). Patient education also has a positive impact on the treatment process and the work of nurses. Often, nurses have to deal with patients who were not even aware of the presence of any disease. In this case, patient education provides methods of prevention of many harmful consequences and improve the quality of treatment. One of the goals of patient education is to increase their awareness of health issues (Yeh et al., 2018). This practice has proven to reduce the development of various chronic diseases or improve the effectiveness of treatment. | Implications of the Evidence | Thus, the evidence shows how important patient satisfaction and patient education are to the work of nurses. Using the PICOT model provided above, it is possible to correctly and effectively identify the dependence of these factors on the working practice of nurses and the effectiveness of treatment. I believe that further research should be aimed at identifying this dependence. First of all, the concept of patient satisfaction is quite extensive and covers not only the field of health, but also psychological aspects. Second of all, the aspect of patient education for medical practice is still new. However, it has already proved its relevance, and further research might contribute to its development. |
