The Motion of the Alioth Star Relative to Earth

For observation Alioth was chosen as the brightest star of the Big Dipper. At the start of the observation the star was very low almost at the horizon, and for that purpose an empty field was chosen for observation. The same location was used gain in every subsequent observation session. Three more observations were used, with two week s intervals. The last observation was dated at the first of December. The position of the star was approximated. Considering the drawing, it can be stated that the movement of the star almost coincided with the theoretical predicted value. The theoretical predicted value was calculated at almost 41 degree. The calculations can be seen as follows:

(42 days / 365.25) x 360o =0.11×360= 41.4o.
