Author Profile

The subject of climate change is significant, urgent, and ongoing. All of our daily activities, including mining, significantly affect the problem’s development and put plants, animals, and future generations in danger, which is why this issue is crucial to me. I want to live a long life in a healthy environment with my family and close friends. From my perspective, humanity is capable of great things as a collective, and that change can be enacted for the right reasons provided by occasions like Earth Hour.

Summary

In recent years, the climate on Earth has changed markedly: some countries suffer from abnormal heat, others from too harsh and snowy winters, unusual for these places. Ecologists talk about global climate change, including an increase in the average annual temperature, causing the melting of glaciers, and rising sea levels. In addition to warming, there is also an imbalance in all natural systems, which leads to a change in precipitation patterns, temperature anomalies, and an increase in the frequency of extreme events such as hurricanes, floods, and droughts.

Natural Disasters

Climate zones will shift, and weather changes will become more dramatic. For example, severe frosts followed by sudden thaws in winter and an increase in the number of abnormally hot days in summer can result from climate change. Experts use climate models to predict the impact of global warming on rainfall. However, even without modeling, it is clear that solid storms began to occur much more often. Hurricanes are powered by warm waters, the formation of which is caused by increased temperature in the oceans and the atmosphere with the number of storms. Another problem may be drought, which leads to a rapid reduction in water supplies and a decrease in the quality of agricultural products.

Political Consequences

The political consequences of climate change include military conflicts that may arise in connection with the resettlement of the population and the seizure of sources of natural resources. Climate change amplifies the factors that push people into poverty and prevent them from changing the situation in which they find themselves. Most refugees come from the most vulnerable countries, unprepared to adapt to climate change’s effects. Environmental crises and violence are closely related due to the lack of resources. Declines in the quantity and quality of food, water, and land may be the leading causes of the increase in global security threats, conflicts, and wars.

Impact on Biodiversity

Some species may become endangered because the entire habitat, including plants and animals, is affected. Animals worldwide will undergo significant alterations because of climate change. There are predictions of the extinction of up to 30-40% of plant and animal species, as their habitat will change faster than they can adapt to these changes (Extinction of Species, n.d,). A world exacerbated by climate change is losing species a thousand times more quickly than at any time in recorded human history. A million species are threatened with extinction over the next few decades. The many threats associated with climate change include wildfires, extreme weather, and invasive pests and diseases.

Statistics

Climate change causes organisms and ecosystems to adapt, move, or have fewer offspring. Between September 2020 and February 2021, 12.5 million people were uprooted due to global climate change, with an average of over 20 million every year, according to data from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC, 2021). If we do not take more steps to reduce the existing climate impacts, global temperatures will rise by 2-4 °C (3-7 °F) by the end of the century (IFRC, 2021). That is why the problem of climate change is a global issue, which is essential not only for me but for the world as a whole.
